Finding A Family-Friendly Ski Resort

Planning and enjoying a family ski vacation can be challenging. There are many beautiful lodges and ski resorts that are not focused on families and will not be as enjoyable for children and families as a resort that is family centered. Finding the resort that will be perfect for a family ski vacation will give every one in the family the kind of ski experience that they will enjoy. Family resorts have both challenging slopes for experienced skiers and great slopes and instructors for new skiers.

Using a few simple tips to find the best resort will result in a great vacation for the whole family. One way to gauge a resorts ability to serve all members of the family is to ask about alpine skiing equipment rental. Some resorts that provide vacation packages, do not have equipment that is appropriate for young children. Finding out beforehand the equipment that is offered by the resort will help you to narrow down the resorts you consider for your vacation.

The ski instructors at family resorts have experience and expertise working with children and adults who do not know how to ski. They will not be constantly looking at their digital sport watch to check the time when a lesson runs over the allotted time. The lessons often will extend beyond the hour that is allocated and may include lessons in different types of skiing.

When the instructor is working with new skiers, they will often request that all of the students wear a full face helmet. This protection is especially important for new skiers who may not know how to fall without injuring themselves. The protective head gear is normally used for snowboarding and provides more protection than is found with light weight head gear.

Staying at a family resort will provide many opportunities to participate in local activities when you are not on the slopes. In most cases there will be an ice skating rink near the resort that will offer both free skating time and skating lessons. A family will also enjoy other activities to local events and festivals that may be occurring near the resort.

When you have found the family resort that has the activities that the entire family will enjoy, you will want to make a reservation early. These resorts often have long waiting lists and are full during most of the skiing season. Comparing the family resorts, you will want to ask about family vacation packages that may be available. It is often possible to get a special rate if you plan your vacation during times of the year that are not busy.

Some vacation packages also include baby-sitting services for parent. This will allow you to take advantage of the more challenging slopes while children are learning to ski.
